The Library of the new CDU building is strategically situated on the second floor. It is well designed to meet the standards of a university. Its floor area is three times the size of the Library in previous location. With a seating capacity of about 1000, the Library is made more conducive to learning and research. It has several new salient features like the Discussion rooms, Chat rooms where students can make or take calls through their cellular phones, Conference room which also serves as a Faculty Reading Area when there is no scheduled meeting or other activities, Laptop Charging Area where students can recharge their laptops for free and a Perk Corner where students can take a short break for a cup of coffee and light refreshments.
Another salient feature, which is unique in our university, is the Book Drop. It is provided to facilitate book returns. Students could still return their borrowed books even if the Library is already closed. With this, students have no excuse why they could not return their books on time.
The most recent development of the Library is availability of the Online Public Access Catalog, which was launched on November 24, 2007, during the celebration of the 75th National Book Week. With 6 terminals, searching for books and other materials is now just a click of a finger.
The library is also happy to announce the addition of a new database. Effective January 2008, the administration approved our request to subscribe to the Proquest Health Management Database in addition to our existing subscription to the Proquest Health and Medical Complete Database. We do encourage students and faculty to maximize the use of our materials. These databases are really useful especially to those who are involved in research.
More developments are considered to be made available in the future like the automated circulation to facilitate returning and borrowing of library materials. Provision of Wi-Fi is also being considered.
With all these new features and services, we can proudly say that the Library is already at par with the Libraries in other big universities.
