Models from this event were airsoft players. Mr. Kenneth Villaflor, model and organizer of the event shared,”We’ve been playing airsoft all the time yet there are some who just wish to watch rather than play while on their gears“. These players is what they call as the impressionists or the re enactors. “So I thought, why not putting it into good use and organize an event such as this“, Villaflor adds.

Before the main event started, a sumptuous dinner buffet was served first. Not to mention the event venue was particularly in the rooftop of the building. You can see the amazing night view of the city. The city lights were pretty much enchanting and the air was so cool, just perfect for the event. When all was finally set, the fashion show then started. Photographers particularly the media also ready with their gears. I was really amazed of the way they look. They were pretty like real soldiers gone to war. Here are some of the photos I took during the event.

Who says war is only for men and adults? Well guess again. Women and children are NOT exempted.

Of course, they didn’t leave the audience hanging. They gave mugs as souvenirs and a free photo booth for everyone to enjoy. You can check out the photos here. Congratulations for the successful event!

General Rules and Guidelines:

1. Sun.Star Photo Contest is open to all amateur and professional photographers in the Philippines except direct employees of the company and their relatives to the 3rd degree of consanguinity.

2. To join, applicants are required to fill out entry forms which they can get from any Sun.Star Cebu branch (P. del Rosario St., Fuente or Mandaue Branch)

3. Submitted photos for “Cebuscapes” and “Changing Cebu” must have a location, date, name of photographer, brief description and must be identifiably taken in any place of Cebu.

4. All photos submitted as entries must be taken within the contest dates, May-Sept. 2010.

5. Pictures must be colored or black & white.

6. Photos must be shot in raw format. Entry pictures must be in 8×10 prints, free of any watermarks or any markings and submitted with corresponding JPG and RAW/NEF files inside a CD or DVD.

7. Digital manipulation acceptable is adjustments to color, contrast, brightness and sharpness; removal of dust and scratches; cropping; and black and white conversions. Not acceptable are photo composites (combination of two or more photos); the addition, duplication, deletion or moving of objects in the photos; Infrared photos are not allowed.

8. Only two (2) photos per category per month may be submitted free of charge per photographer. A charge of P100/photo will be imposed for additional entries up to a maximum of ten additional entries per category per month.

9. Photos submitted must have been unpublished and should not have been posted in any website or social networking sites.

10. Judging of monthly entries will be based on entry number and not by photographer’s name.

11. Two entries per category will be chosen as winners every month and these will qualify for the grand finals on October 2010.

12. Entries per month must be submitted on or before the following dates: May 31, June 30, July 30, August 31 and September 30, 2010. Winning entries every month will be announced in the newspaper. Non-winning entries for the month will not qualify for the next month’s judging.

13. The criteria for judging are on image quality (sharpness, exposure, and lighting), composition and relevance to the theme.

14. A special prize will be given to an entry that may be chosen as the cover of the Cebu Yearbook 2011 issue.

15. All winning entries will be published in the Cebu Yearbook 2011 issue.

16. The decision of the Board of Judges shall be final.

In two years, blogging in Cebu has ripened from just being a mere online diary to something that takes an active role in civic and social awareness.

One of the factors that contributed to this positive development in the blogging scene in Cebu is the creation of a local blogging community.

The Cebu Bloggers Society was founded on February 14, 2008, with the main goal of uniting Cebu-based bloggers into a well-bonded community. And indeed, after its creation, individuals with diverse backgrounds but with a common interest, which is to promote Cebu and advocate blogging as a key tool for progress, converged together to establish Cebu’s first and largest blogging community.

The Cebu Bloggers Society has really grown and evolved quite significantly. From its humble beginnings, the group presently has at least 80 members and still counting. And now, the group is already anticipating its 2nd founding anniversary! NOTE: DO NOT OVER-VOTE! If you vote for more than the maximum number allowed, your votes for that position will NOT BE COUNTED.

Step 2

Insert your ballot into the counting machine. It doesn’t matter if you insert the ballot bottom first or upside down.

Step 3

At the end of the process, the voting machine will count all the votes cast and produce thirty copies of the election returns.

Michael Jackson was a fan of the more than 1,500 Filipino inmates who performed the choreography for his video “Thriller” in 2007 and created a viral hit.

Jackson watched the videos of Cebu Provincial Detention And Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) prisoners during breaks from his tour rehearsals for “This Is It,” his choreographer Travis Payne said.

Payne recently contacted Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, and arranged to make a surprise visit to meet the performers in the high security prison, the Philippines’ Manila Bulletin reported.

Payne spent two hours on Sun., Jan. 17, and Mon., Jan. 18, teaching the dancers the routines from Jackson’s posthumous “This Is It” film.

“The Drill” is the last scene Payne and Jackson worked on together before the pop icon died in June. The clip was released over the weekend, days before the Tues., Jan. 26 release of the “This Is It”DVD.

The CPDRC performance videos of Jackson’s “Thriller,” “Dangerous,” and the Village People’s “Y.M.C.A,” among others, are all well done.

But Payne, who worked with Jackson for more than 10 years, was able to take their performance to new heights. Their rendition of Jackson’s “They Don’t Really Care About Us” is comparable to the scene in “This Is It.”

The “This Is It” version is a highlight of the film. It features a group of dancers who were digitally replicated to appear as an army. Payne’s work with the CPDRC men brought this virtual sequence to real life.

The inmates were not initially receptive to participating in the choreographed dances, said Bryon Garcia, a security consultant for the prison. He suggested the activity to keep the prisoners busy during their downtime, the Manila Bulletin reported.

According to the New York Times, Bryon decided to post videos of the prisoners dancing online to publicize some of the positive changes he implemented at Cebu since joining the staff in 2004.

That was just amazing. Brilliant performance by the inmates! Good job guys. 5 stars for Travis Payne and the other MJ dancers. You all did great.

This is an awesome tribute to Michael. He would be very much impressed. May he rest in peace.

As far as I can remember, I’ve been to Maribago Bluewater three times already last year. Wow, those moments were just amazing. It is the first marine protected area in the Philippines and was made a fish sanctuary in 1974 under the guidance of Siliman University Marine Reserve. During dives, one will find varied marine species and even occasional sightings of black tip sharks. Pristine white sand beaches are situated in different areas in Sumilon.

Its Sandbar is well known for its changing shapes and shifting locations around the island, depending on the season. On the island, there is a natural lagoon teeming with high mangroves. There are also natural caves where fishermen used to seek refuge. On the southside, a lighthouse rests on a protected tree park. Beside it is a “Baluarte”, a historical watchtower built as part of a warning system to thwart slavers and marauders in the 19th century.

Wow. Those Islands surely bring out the best accommodations ever. Now my next island destination is the Panglao Bluewater Island Resort. I’ve always wanted to go to Bohol but still I’ve never been there, so I really hope I could go there this year. And hopefully, I’d be able to stay at the bluewater resort.

GOLDEN BOWL DIMSUM

Golden Bowl Dimsum Express started our by an invitation from an SM Foodcourt tenant friend way back in 1997. It was the first Dimsum in a Foodcourt in Cebu. The name Golden Bowl Dimsum, at that time, came from the existing restaurant business, Golden Bowl City Dimsum Restaurant, “Bowl” for the smaller store, “City” for the big one.

Golden Bowl Dimsum Express offers different variety of traditional Hongkong style Dimsum and other Chinese cuisine. Their Steam Rice is known to most Chinese community as the original and the best tasting Steam Rice in Cebu. Steam Rice is originated here in Cebu. It was created by a Hongkong chef, Chi Keung Leung. It was created only by accident, the oven for baking was out of order and chef was forced to create a new dish to replace unavailable menus.

Steam Rice was and still a hit to the Cebuano Market.

RIC’S BARBECUE

After 15 years of operations in SM Foodcourt, Ric’s Barbecue owner Jingle Benitez-Polotan knows by heart the ingredients for a successful restaurant.

VENETIAN COFFEE BREAK & DESSERTS

Venetian coffee started on October 16, 1998 as a coffee cart at the SM Foodcourt in SM City Cebu following the Italian concept of “coffee-to-go”.

With its growing number of patrons, Venetian Coffee expanded from a small cart to a coffee shop; this time associating its brand with the businessmen & entrepreneur clientele.

Venetian Coffee became a place for business meetings with its wide array of coffee blends and pastries.

On December 11, 1999, Venetian Coffee opened its 2nd coffee shop at the 3rd level of the same mall.

FOUNTAINHEAD

Fountainhead Bakeshop started as Linda’s Bakeshop in the early 70’s and evolved from a home based business to what it is now; an institution of 31 years.

From delicate sponge cakes, to chiffon and chocolate cakes, the bakeshop grew under the enthusiasm of Mrs. Erlinda Francisco who specialized greatly in large tiered cakes for all occasions and home made baked goodies like ensaymadas, leche flans, well-loved brazo de Mercedes and the like…

When the first store was birthed in Manalili St., Cebu City, the flag bearer, Fountainhead Tasty Bread came into being as well. This gread joined the elite force of great tasting cakes and with many other new concoctions, which now contribute to the Fountainhead we all know now. They have many stand-out delicacies from bread, cakes, and pastries enough to wow the customers.

MAMA GIE

Started in 1980 managed and operated by spouses Alfredo E. Costales (deceased) and Virginia P. Costales. The name “MAMA GIE” wa derived from Virgnia’s nickname Virgie or Gie for short and was widely known to friends and peers as “MAMA GIE”.

By July of 1994, the name of the company was called MAMA GIE CORPORATION.

The same year 1994, MAMA GIE Corporation was offered aspace at SM City Cebu Foodcourt. MAMA GIE’s concept of Kapampangan foods was approved. Setting up of a foodstall in SM Foodcourt was a brilliant and wise move of MAMA GIE to corner the market. Indeed, MAMA GIE ranks no. 1 in terms of SALES at SM City Cebu Foodcourt since the 2nd quarter of 1998. The reason for its success, “good food, fast service and quality not to be compromised” is the philosophy they have instituted among their works. The top favorites are Boneless Bangus, Lechon Kawali as well as other top seller menu items.

FISHPORT GRILL

Fish Port Grill Express opened last July 26 of 2009 at SM Foodcourt, SM City Cebu. Fish Port Grill is a seafood fastfood restaurant where they serve mainly tuna dishes. They serve tuna in different ways but they are known for their grilled tuna belly, panga, and tuna bicol express.

Their Grilled Tuna Belly is served with achara. It is marinated for a few hours. Then the tuna belly is grilled and glazed with their special marinade which makes it taste juicy and mouth watering.

For spicy lovers, it is recommended to taste their Tuna Bicol Express. Tuna Bicol Express is served with coconut cream and season with salt and pepper. Minced siling labuyo and spada to make the tuna spicy.

FIESTA CEBUANA

From the picture of 1st time tourists in search of a place to eat in a 1st time island, Fiesta! Cebuana was born in December 2005. Fiesta! Cebuana serves fine celebration food called from an heirloom of recipes passed on to one of its owners from a great grandmother. Fiesta! Cebuana is happy food, a modest expression of Cebu island happiness. 365 days in a year, one could partake in a true island feast in 365 different ways. Fiesta! Cebuana is love, protected from  generation to generation, as a priceless heritage from the past.

KING WAH CHINESE CUISINE

Travel is always the best way to experience culinary diversity and Mrs. Evelyn Lim can personally attest to this. Her travels to China, Hong Kong and to other countries allowed her to savor the different dishes each country had to offer. Enlightened on the joys one can get from gastronomic delights, she was then inspired to share the wonderful experience to the Cebuano people.

Wanting her dream to become reality, she opened King Wah Chinese Cuisine. Established on May of 1994 at the SM City Cebu Foodcourt, King Wah Chinese Cuisine made sure that it can provide the best dishes at affordable prices garnished with impeccable customer sevice.

Through this delightful food house, Mrs. Evelyn Lim made good with her promise to serve the patrons with authentic Asian dishes that was not only unique but also quite delightful to the palates of Filipinos as it combined the savory taste of Filipino cooking with that of the sophistication of Chinese cuisine.

King Wah Chinese Cuisine will always stand to its vision of serving the people with hot, fast, affordable and exquisite Chinese-Filipino dishes.

SMOKEY’S

Smokey’s was conceived and developed by Pure Foods Corp. in 1982. It specializes in hotdog based food products. The first Smokey’s outlet was opened at the Quad Carpark in Makati City in November, 1982. Provincial expansion began in 1989. To date Smokey’s can be seen in every conceivable corner in the Phils. Especially in malls, schools, hospitals, etc. In the year 2002, Smokey’s is now part of San Miguel Pure Foods Corp.

Smokey’s SM Foodcourt opens together with the opening of SM City Cebu in 1993. Over the years, it has delighted customers at SM Foodcourt, SM City Cebu with its plain hotdog sandwiches an hotdog combinations. A trip to SM Foodcourt is not ocmplete without Smokey’s.

Yummy huh? But unfortunately I wasn’t able to taste those foods except for the Black Forest cake from Fountainhead because I was already full beforehand. So there, it was like we’re having a feast in the SM City Cebu Foodcourt.

Other highlights of the event include the live blogging contest which is to blog about the event. The hosts of the event would be the judge and the fortunate winner of the contest was Michael Sinjin Pineda of the Cebu Bloggers Society. After the contest was the distribution of certificates plus a gift pack from Del Monte to each of the bloggers who joined the event. Of course, I received mine. Thank you so much.
